I have a 62 2000 that the shifter will pull up and shift gears ,I was told that will make it shift from low to high range . Can anyone tell me if this is true and if it is what do I need to do to make it shift?

I don't know of a Ford transmission that changes ranges like that.
There were different transmission options though.
Do you know which one yours has? If not, can you post a picture
of the shift lever?

I cant take picture now but the shifter is no different than any other except that it will pull up about 1 1/2 inches it only has reverse and four forward stamped on the tractor

the tractor has only four stamped on it . Up front it has reverse ,4th and1st in the back it has 3rd and 2nd

Sounds like a regular 4 speed where something in the the shifter is worn, broken or missing so that it can move up-and-down, which it isn't supposed top do. The 5 speed shifter is made to move up-and-down, but it's not for different ranges, it's just part of the regular manure pattern on that transmission, and the top plate of the 5 speed clearly shows the 5 forward speeds and single reverse speed.

The only 4 cylinder 2000 that had "ranges" was if it had the 4 speed plus a Sherman auxiliary trans, but the Sherman had a separate handle on the left side of the trans to shift between the ranges.

Thanks thats what I thought been around ford tractors a lot but dont claim to know all, helps to ask, thanks again it just seams that first gear is way fast but it may be the modle .

A guy told me that the old 4speed shifters were designed to be picked up and rotated out of your legs way to make it easier to get on and off the tractor. And the 4 speeds I've worked on would lift and rotate like that. Now this might be BS , that guy told me that the rotating shifter was Henry Fords own idea on the old 9n s. Has anyone tried to do this on a 9n or 8n?

Model 660, yep, I heard that story too. Usually covers up a broken spring.

smckinney, first gear IS way too fast, as is reverse. Nature of the beast
with the four speed. Hence the 5 speed and the SOS options.
