Got a 7710 Ford 4x4 will not disengage. I have power and I took the solenoid out and it clicks when you give it power from a 12 volt charger. Any ideas?

Is it getting power from the vehicle battery? You proved the solenoid works but it needs to work with the vehicle power supply and the vehicle ground. Is it doing that?

I would check the solenoid while it's hooked to it's own wire on the tractor. It could be a power supply problem. The MFWD is normally engaged and it takes power to disengage it.
If the solenoid seems OK then it's time to start pressure testing the control circuit. The PTO/Dual Power/ MFWD circuit should make 160-180 psi at a fast idle with warm oil. If it's not making close to that, then the clutch will not disengage. That could be a minor or major problem...
The third possibility is that the clutch has warped plates or the piston is stuck and will not release. That would I suppose be preferable to major hydraulic problems.... but depending on which transfer box is installed... could be troubling enough. ZF boxes are not so easy to get kit for anymore...

OK I have checked the solenoid with tractors power and it works. I have good pressure ether way I work the switch. Took it off and tore it apart and I can't tell that any thing looks bad. Clutches and plates look real good. The piston looks good it even makes good sound when you work it. Pressed it down and checked the gap on to front snap ring as the book said and it seams fine.

Is it possible it was just stuck is this something that happens? I don't know what transfer case it has it don't have a hand brake and it has an apl325 front axle and it's an '83.

Is their anything I should check or do before I put it back together?
