Good morning ! I am new here though I've been reading posts on here. This is my first time to ever post on anything , I am cyber challenged. I recently became the owner of a Ford 4000 Industrial tractor. It has a 4 cylinder gasoline engine and a 4 speed transmission. This tractor runs well just needs some TLC. I am not new to old tractors, I have kept my MF40 well maintained since the early 80's. I would appreciate in feedback concerning manuals, what fluids, what sparkplugs, anything that would help a guy get it right ! Sorry, tried to upload a pic of the tractor and numbers, but couldn't figure out how.

In the past I would say use auto lite 437 plugs but I have found now days they are junk so I have switched to NGK3112s and have been having good luck with them

.025 plugs and points.

A utf oil meeting m2c134 specs for trans, Hyds and rear sumps

A engine oil rated for your temp range. If pressure is good, viscosity won't make a huge difference.. Ie, 10w30 & 15w40 both fine...

(quoted from post at 11:33:26 11/18/15) Same as the 437 plug and I set them at 0.025
Thanks, this all really great info that I was needing from you guys that have this experience. Keep it coming, please.!!

just because they are made in mexico does not make them automatically junk. (437's) I have been using them for years and will continue to do so.

They are suppose to be an exact cross from the 437 just an all around better plug

I have been also but in the last few years they are not holding up as well and since I have switched to the NGK I get faster start up and better running Ford. My 841 had year old 437s in it and was a bear to start but after putting in NGK it starts up nice and fast

Does not matter if you agree or not I have tried both brands and in the last few years auto lite have gone to China and are junk but the NGK well they work well. My 841 was hard to start till I put the NGKs in and now easy start and the auto lite I pull out where about a year old. By the way O'Reilly's which is the only good auto parts store in town can get me any brand plug I want. O'Reilly's is 7 miles form my house. and the next nearest good auto place is 25 miles so it is a no brainer

I already bought that one. It was a little generic, my thought. I uploaded a picture of the tractor, but don't know where it is now?[/img]

so you had "old" 437's and you put new plugs in. new plugs will always make an engine start easier than old plugs. either way it's your call.

Year old plugs are not old plugs when the tractor might see all of say 100 hours a year.

Most any manual you buy for it will be that way. I collect manuals and I have yet to find any one manual that covers every thing. Ya the Ford service manual is probably to best one but it is also the one that will cost you the biggest price and if your much of a wrench turner well you should not really need that

You are correct about a wrench turner. I drive a '62 Willy's Pickup that I did a complete off frame restore on. I have owned a machine shop in OKC for 18 years, therefore if the part isn't available, I make it. There are certain things I've seen on this tractor that I have never seen before. An example is ...on the left and right side of the seat, down low by the differential is a rod/latch that is attached to the brakes on each side. I just thought that more complete manuals would explain some of these things.

Spark plugs are a bit like oil what ever fits your fancy!! when the USA stopped making parts they all are a crap shoot.
You can still find a few parts that are still made in the USA but they are pricey.
Boss

After reading this I went to O's and bought the NGK3112, or least that's what I ordered.
Picked them up today.
Are these the right one's? Numbers on plug have me confused.
