I am posting this question for a friend. He has a Ford 5000 with select o speed transmission. He is having a problem with the control selector assembly. New Holland's website only shows the Ford 5100 and 5200 when pulling up the parts diagram so I'm not 100% sure how the 5000 would compare. I will be taking the parts diagram to him and try to compare but thought maybe there was some experience with this that could help.
The select o speed control was working fine and then suddenly started to spin freely. Almost as if something has broken loose. Take it apart and bolt it back together (making sure in the proper gear) and it works very briefly (enough to get it moved into the shed) and it spins freely again. Once it starts to spin it never grips again. Take it apart and put it back together and it works very briefly until it spins free again. The cable coming up from the transmission appears to be working as it should. The "ears" connecting the control assembly and transmission cable look good and appear to be staying connected as well.
Any thoughts? Procedures to diagnose?
