Replacing ford 5000 diesle cam

I have my head off front timing cover and pulled the cam gear and retainer off can't get the lifters to pull out was looking for tips and also wondering if I do get my lifters out will the cam slide out the front or is there anything on the back of the cam that has to be removed to get the cam to slide out

It's been a long time since I was into the bottom of one of those things... but IIRC, those are a shouldered lifter. They come out the bottom after you pull the cam...
Generally a 5000 would not have had a drive gear on the rear of the cam... but if it's a later engine it could have one as they were frequently used to drive auxillary hydraulic pumps and on the 3 cylinder SOS models... all hydraulic pumps.

You'll need 8 magnets or 8 wooden split dowels to hold the lifters up to get the cam out. Lifters then come out the bottom. There should be no drive gear on the back of a 5000.
