Need a little help with my 800 series

Hey guys

I just bought this tractor, I've never owned or used a tractor before and I have just a couple of basic questions.

First off, what can you tell me about it? check out the pictures, I believe its an 860

I'm having a little trouble getting the 3 point hitch to lift, not exactly sure what I'm supposed to be doing. The lever on the right is obviously what operates the up and down, but just infront of that lever is a small lever with two locking positions and I'm not sure what it does

On the left hand side under the seat is another lever, which I have no idea what it does.

Somebody please help out the newbie here!

thanks

Lever under left of seat is PTO engage disengage.

Little lever on right is position control/ draft control. Up is position control. This where most 3 point work happens. Down is draft control. Mold board plowing is a place for use in ths position. Draft control senses the load on the hitch and raises it a bit when the load gets too heavy. In the draft position you won't have much control over the height of your 3 point.

As to not lifting you may need to bleed air from the pump. To do this remove the hex socket plug from the top front of your pump if it has the newer piston style pump. Crank, don't start, the engine until oil flows out. Replace the plug. If that makes it work for a short period, you may need to rebuild your pump. If you have the old vane pump someone else will have to help you with it. Pic isn't clear enough for me to tell which, but kinda looks like it may be the vane style.

That is a really nice looking straight one.(12v sys. conv.) '55 -? 860 the fenders, flat foot rests. <> = supposed to be sleeved block and early 00's? Serial # is neat with all the 2's ! Be neat to see a shot of under the rear axle differential where that drawbar is fastened, don't recall seeing one of those before, unique for sure, aside from a safety issue and riding on one, there is a lot more to stand on with one of these! (for those who surfed/rode a regular one lol) The one foot balancing act does get old :)

As Billy stated it's a '55. Looks to be a vane hydraulic pump. The lever under the left is to operate the pto shaft
under the cover in the back of the tractor, although looking at your drawbar I doubt that it was used much. It might be
possible that the shaft size is 1 1/8" (early style) instead of 1 3/8". Something you will have to check before use.
They do make adapter to change to 1 3/8".
BTW your seat is not an aftermarket it's off a jacobsen F or G10 model tractor

It looks identical to my 1958 model 660 the 600 series and it has a 6 speed tranny which is what the 60 stands for. Here is my 660

As previously posted, it appears to be a 55 model. Though indeterminate from the photos, it appears to be an 850 (non live PTO).

Be careful using the home made fixed drawbar. The cantilevered design could damage the rear axle housing.

First step: Get a proper operators manual.

Not only might it be possible, I don't believe that small cap would fit a 1-3/8 shaft.

Incorrect!!!!!! The second digit in the model names the PTO con figuration. Besides which there is no such thing as a 6 speed transmission in 00 series tractors. They are either 4 or 5 speeds. A four could have an auxiliary to make it 8 or 12 speeds.

your 660 is a 5 speed as is the OPs 860. Reverse does not count as a speed!

wish I could edit that last one! the middle digit not only names the transmission, but also denotes the PTO configuration. *50s and *60s are both 5 speed transmissions. The 5 is a 5 speed with a transmission PTO. The 6 is a 5 speed with a live PTO.

nice wheels matti.

promise us something...do NOT do anything to the tractor until you acquire the proper manual for it.

One thing to add about the left hand PTO lever.
You have to have the clutch pushed in to engage or disengage
it if the tractor is running. You can't turn it on and off on the
fly without damaging something.

If it is an 860, and it looks to be, you have live PTO.
It is live via having two clutches operated by the same pedal.
Push it down half way and the first clutch stops the tractor's
ground movement. Push it down all the way and it stops the PTO also.

This lets you start out by easing up on the clutch to get
your mower, etc spinning and then letting it up more to start
moving. Far easier than try to get a brushhog spinning while
trying to move the tractor at the same time and you can stop
the movement without stopping the PTO when an implement
such as a baler encounters a heavy load.
