Posting this for a ford friend. He has a 2600 Ford diesel tractor and is considering putting a loader on it to help with his farm market. Something that would lift approx. 1000lbs. (approx. weight of a 4x4x4 crate of pumpkins). Are there any loader preferences that one should consider over another? Thank-you Don(Jon)

I've only used a few loaders. .. and the first two wete old and beat up when I got them. But I will say that after 7+ years of owning one, I still have no hesitation in recommending a Westendorf. Go to loaders.com for a list of their loaders and what tractors they will fit.
Whatever brand you go with, make sure it's a quick attach.

Talked to westendorf, they are saying we will have to run a pto hydraulic pump, as the tractor hydraulics do not have enough flow. That will require a reservoir also. starting to get a bit to pricey for what he wanted to do. was hoping to run it of tractor hydraulics. Does any one have any different insight on this issue? Thanks We could be overlooking something here.

Where are you located? I've run them off the tractor hyd and it is slow but better than lifting by hand. If it's a commercial venture and time is money, a front pump might be a better setup as it runs quicker.

Around here (NE Ohio) they go on CL for around $4-700 if they need work and $1500 or so ready to go.

Just picked up a 776A without mount brackets for $400 last month. Came with a pump and such, just needs pump drive, a few lines (they cut 3 of em) and the rear mount brackets fabbed.

I have a Freeman loader running off the tractor hydraulics on my '73 4000, and it is on the slow end of tolerable. I believe that the x600 series, including the 2600, had improved hydraulics in terms of flow and other capabilities over the thousand series, so it shouldn't be too terribly slow, but it won't be as fast as it could be with a PTO pump or front mount stinger pump. I'm surprised that Westendorf recommended a PTO pump and didn't mention a stinger pump at all.
