Ford 2810 Rear Tires

Hi, everyone. I'm a new tractor owner. Not a new tractor, just my first one. I have a couple of issues. Well, 3 to be exact:

1 - I have a new-to-me Ford 2810 and desperately need rear tires. Currently, it has turf tires that say "16.9x24 on rim. According to TractorData.com, the rear tire dimensions, for Ag tires, is 13.6-28. I definitely want ag tires but I'm confused as to what size to buy.

2 - The previous owner put horizontal exhaust on it. I believe that I would like to convert it back to vertical exhaust. Mostly due to the fact that I get smoked out when attaching any implements. But thought I'd ask for comments and/or suggestions first.

3 - Am thinking of replacing the oil pressure idiot light with an oil pressure gauge. Again, any comments and/or suggestions?

Thank you in advance for any help.

if you want to get back over to the cheaper and more common 28" tries, you will need new rear rims and centers. Cheapest way to do that would be to find someone local with ag tires on 28" rims with centers that wants those big sand tires you have. Probably swap straight up depending on condition.

Exhaust? completely your call.. you could also just add a muffler end piece that deflects the exhaust over to the side at an angle. may help enough and prevent a full exhaust re-route. you can make those add on deflectors for about 8$ from the 'help' section of auto stores, with an end piece, and a couple screws, though some come with 2 set screws already. add some muffler packing, or putty, or foil, or stove gasket, and you are set.

Oil pressure gauge vs idiot lamp? My sugestion... If you want the gauge, then keep BOTH the gauge AND the lamp.

The sender is usually on the left side of the engine, towards the front. Just hit a plumbing supply, and get the hardware needed to 'T' the sender AND have a capilary line to go to that gauge you are needing to see. Don't get crazy with the plumbing adapters and have some 1' long contraption hanging out the side of the block waiting to snap off and ruin the engine.

First of all, unless the tires are
completely flat and falling off the rim I
wouldn't call it desperate. The old saying
is if they're black, round and hold air
they'll do for a while yet.
But i do understand your wanting ag tires.
I haven't looked it up but would say that
standard ag size for your tractor would be
13.6X28. But going to that size would
require you buy new or used rims as well
as centers.
16.9x24 tires are a bit wide for your
tractor. 14.9 may be a better match and
wouldn't require changing rims, etc.
Converting from verticle to horizontal
exhaust is neither hard nor expensive.
Buy the manifold and curved extension and
install them.
If the muffler is good you can reuse it.
Put a rain flapper on it.
As for the oil gauge, it certainly won't
hurt to put a Tee in the block where the
sender is and add your gauge.
But please dont drill a big hole in the
dash to mount it. I hate buying a used
tractor that some rube has cobbled that
way.
I would continue to use the light too.
I like the idiot light as that bright red
light is apt to get my attention much
faster than a low reading on a gauge.
Welcome to the YT Ford board by the way.

Black, round and hold air.

Describes lots of my tires! :)

I have a 951 that the tread is delaminating and the rubber comes off in chunks as i road it, but the sidewalls, though checked, still hold. ;)

I have the same exhaust, seemingly factory correct too, per the book or parts diagrams but it was a vertical through the hood when it was new. The owner needed clearance on field perimeters I am sure, probably got whacked enough to make the change.

Sure, you will get fogged out if you leave it running while back there, but there is a very easy solution. I found a piece of flex exhaust pipe, though larger than the pipe ont the tractor, it slides right over the tail pipe and I can route it up behind the fold down rops when its down and with no clamp it stays put, I may get one to fit and clamp it for field work, but for around the yard and miscellaneous, it sure works well to get that exhaust away.

Thanks for the replies, guys. Great information.

I like the black, round and holds air comment. And thanks for the welcome to the forums.

too big and the front will be low and the rear will be high and you will go too fast in low gear to do any heavy work.

I would stay with the 13.6x28 unless you have some strange reason to change.

Its better for a tire to spin a bit than it is to keep killing the engine or flipping over the tractor due to high center of gravity. You can add ballast them also if needed. The 13.6 are sized about right for your horsepower and weight.

exhaust... if you have lots of trees a low exhuast is a blessing. It also carries the sound and fumes away from the driver.. Yes it a pain to hook up equipment with it putting fumes in your face, but an upright will put fumes and noise in your face the whole time your driving it. So pick your poison..I have had both and like the lower exhaust better. If I am hooking up too long, I kill the engine.. as I cant hear myself think.

I would suggest that you go with 14.9 x 24 Ag tires! They will prolly be about the same diameter/height as your 16.9 turfs, and you can use the same wheels & rims. I'm guessing that your present rims are 12" wide, if not, all bets are off!
I would suggest that you put tubes in them, especially if you plan to add liquid ballast!

Thanks, Dave.

I'm wondering if I should look for 13.6-28-compatible rims and centers. If so, I'm at a loss as to where to look for those. I'm assuming a tractor salvage yard? I would like to have the slightly taller tires that came stock on my tractor. At least I assume that they came stock. I guess it's possible that the turf tires and current rims/centers were what came on it?

I guess I would ask "if it was yours, what would you do?".

If mine, I would prolly shoot for 14.9 x 28, or 16.9 x 24, but I'm dealing with a higher HP tractor! I have 14.9 x 28s on my 3910. Keep in mind that the physical dimensions of the tractors all the way from 2310 through 4610 SU are the same. I have seen a lot of SUs with both 14.9 x 28 and 16.9 x 24. I am also a proponent of wider tires, but YMMV, Dave

OK. But just to make sure I'm thinking right, based on your suggestion:

1 - if I go with 14.9-28, then I have to get rims and centers, too, right?

2 - if I go with 16.9-24, then I can use my existing rims/centers?

One other thought! I would be surprised if the 13.6 x 28 ags were any taller than the 16.9 x 24 turfs, might even be a tad shorter! If you are looking for additional height, I would think the 14.9 x 28 or 16.9 x 24 ags might be your answer!
