55 Ford 860---gas shower from carb

Hi Guys---long time, no post! The 8N"s are fine....it"s their big brother. Used it a lot snow plowing in 2013. Parked in shed until Fall
of 2014. Moved the tractor about 2 miles from shed to house last October. NEVER needed it to plow snow all last Winter. May of 2015 used
it for a few days skidding firewood trees out before parking in shed. NO Problems. 3 weeks ago, it started right up but 1/2 way from shed
to house, started losing power on an uphill grade. Low on gas so I put in 5 gallons. Started home again, losing power all the way. No
throttle response whatsoever. By the time I got it home, I wouldn"t have put $$ on it in a race against a turtle. Parked it and noticed
LOTS of gas leaking out from carb. Today, I had a chance to look at it. Rapped the carbafew times in case that would take care of a
sticky float, opened the gas valve and it looked like gas was leaking from the gasket, out the bottom, everywhere.

So, to sum this up, very little use since Spring of 2014, no power, no throttle reaction, and continuous carb shower. Used gas
preservative in tank. The paint still looks good though. What"s up?

Thanks, Tim

It does sound like a stuck float or one that has a leak and contains some fuel. If tapping on it does not free it up, then you will probably need to take the carb off and see what's wrong inside. Assuming its a Marvel-Schebler unit, they are pretty easy to work on. You should have a rebuild kit on hand and possibly a new float. The rebuild kit usually includes a new needle and seat.
Sounds like your gas valve works OK. Thats a good thing, but still check your crankcase oil in case gas found its way down there. -Will
