What's leaking

(quoted from post at 14:24:51 11/07/15) Does this appear to be a valve cover leak or something worse?

Picture didn't load. Maybe just because you are a new user.
If it won't load, email it to me and I'll post it for you.

Guess I screwed the pic up

Picture showed up that time. Looks to be at least partly
the valve cover and the seals in the top of it.
The fan has helped spread it all over of course.
If you have the luxury of time you could clean it all up
and run it to pinpoint where it is coming from exactly.

Thanks for the feedback. This is my first tractor (62 801 per the serial number). This was supposed to be a simple replacement of the the fuel shutoff valve and fuel line but after all the issues getting this far I hate to put it back together without fixing the obvious issues.

Some dollar store oven cleaner and a pressure washer will clean
most of that right off of there. Along with some of the old paint.
If I were going to clean it I'd do so before taking it apart.

The fuel shutoff isn't bad to replace but many of the new shutoffs
are poorly made and leak, so check it before you put it on and trust it.

Right above the serial number should be a three digit number
that will tell you exactly what model it is. 841, 851, 861, etc.
Different transmissions and/or clutches in them.

2X what Royse said. It is very common for valve cover gaskets to leak, and when shut off the oil usually tends to run to the front because the front is usually a little lower than the back, and as Royse said he fan does a go0d job of spreading it while running.

I bet it's your valve cover gasket leaking, the side next to the exhaust manifold evidently seems to be the side where the gasket is more prone to crack/split, maybe because of the heat over time or at least that's been my experience with leak on the top, just replaced my gasket on 63 Ford 4000, looks like you took a picture of my leak......
