67 4000 shifter assy fit a 2600 diesel

Guys will a 67 model 4000 diesel 8 speed shifter assy with a cast iron cover directly replace the stamped steel shifter assy in my 2600 Ford diesel? I have some worn parts and found a good complete unit for $50 but want to make sure it is a direct replacement. Thanks.

early models had the safety switch different I know for sure. so the neutral safety switch will not work as early is on top and later in inside. Cant tell you about the rest as it might line up and shift ok. So if the saftey switch is an issue, its a no-go.

question. I won't try it if
the neutral safety switch is
different. Mine wasn't
hooked up but the switch
ohms out as ok. I have no
idea why someone would wire
around this if the switch is
good. Did these give other
troubles other than the
switches?
