As the title says I just bought myself a nice ford 800 series tractor, I'm pretty sure its an 860 but I'm not 100%.

Tractor has a 3 pt hitch and I believe it has a PTO. There is a cap over where the shaft should be I just havent had a chance to pull it off yet.

Anywho, the tractor runs great. The previous owner completely overhauled it a couple of years ago and then passed away.

I found a good deal on a front end loader and have a couple lines on a decent backhoe attachment.

Looking for any advice on wether or not I should bother, if people have had success with this in the past and what I should / should not do. Hopefully do it right the first time and have myself a nice piece of equipment

thanks for any advice / help yall can give me

I have a Ford 840 with 19-97 loader and a Ford 713 backhoe (12 foot
model). This was the "official" backhoe offered by Ford in that era
although the 713 was actually a Wain-Roy backhoe rebranded by Ford.
Back then backhoes were typically attachments to farm tractors and
used a subframe. Later Tractor-Loader-Backhoes were purpose built,
usually on heavier tractors with stronger frames. Now for my opinion
on using an 800 series tractor for backhoe use. The 800 is not ideal
for use as a backhoe platform. It is neither heavy enough or rigid
enough especially when compared to a purpose-built TLB. Although fine
for light digging and such if you are not careful in tough situations
it is not unusual to break or crack stuff on the hoe that takes a lot
of effort to repair.

Loaders and back hoes are real hard on a farm tractor and you for sure want power steering if you have either. As for the back hoe look for a frame mount type instead of 3 point type or you may find your rebuilding the 3 point system often. I have an 8N with back hoe and it is only used as back hoe and we call it the nerd since yes it doe the job but is slow and almost a joke

I purchased a used Bobcat 6TB backhoe attachment for use with my 1963 Ford 4000 and 19-105 loader to complete an irrigation project and was pleased with the results.

As others have stated, it is slower and less capable than a ride-on trencher, mini-excavator or dedicated backhoe but faster than a pick and shovel.

I have a ford 850 with a 711 1-arm loader and a woods 6500 3pt hoe.

I built a bit of a mine frame so that the hoe wasn't just hanging on the 3pt.

3pt hoe, in general are hard on tractors, so by adding a sub frame or tieing them in to the loader frame you help take the stress off the 2 lower lift arm pins and the toplink support.

It goes without saying that a loader on a tractor also works over it's front end.

As long as you remember that you aren't a bull dozer, payloader or a track hoe excavator, and use the machine for what it is, an ag tractor with light to medium duty loader and hoe, you should be ok.

That 8N with back hoe uses about a gal an hour so not all that bad but slow. But it will dig a hole about 18 foot deep

18 feet? Really or just joking? My 40000lb excavator makes it just a touch deeper than that, takes a serious hoe to go that deep

The way this old back hoe is made it will dig deep for what it is. Around 18 foot if you do it right. Both booms are long and the bucket arm boom has a pipe which pulls the boom in instead if the normal hyd cylinder.

Wow that's some serious machine to hang off a hundred series it sounds like! I had been looking for a small backhoe to mount on our naa to be able to get in the woods and other tight places that my fullsize John Deere loader backhoe won't fit but abandoned that idea when I found a cheap mini excavator.

This is a Scout brand back hoe hanging on a 1950 8N. Has to have a 500lbs cement weight up front or you can not move it an inch with out the front wheels off the ground.

Old, can you post some better pictures of your backhoe attachment? I have a scout that I got in an equipment deal and not sure how much is missing.

I might be able to once I dig it out of the weeds again. Have not used it in over a year so the weeds have taken it over but I need to mess with it before it gets to cold out since I think it may have some water in the oil pan. I can say who ever had it before us welded up mounts on the loader frame to mount it. E-mail is open by the way which would make getting pictures faster

Don't know if this picture will help you or not but this is all I have at this time

Thanks, the one I have someone took the cylinders apart. It was lying in the weeds for 11 years. It would help if when you dig it out you could send me some cylinder lengths. Thanks again doorman.
