I replaced spark plugs, spark plug wires, rotor and distributor cap. Nothing helped.

Tractor repair picked it up and took it in to shop and told me a push rod had become unattached.

What could cause something like this to happen?

Anything I can do to prevent same from happening in the future?

Thanks.

Bob

kicked a push rod?

usual cause would be a stuck open valve.

this can also lead to BENT push rods.

Hope they checked it for true / replaced it if it was bent. even a SLIGHT bend will make them more likely to kick off or re-bend.

Intake valve? Varnish (from consuming old gas) builds up a lacquer on the stem.
The hot stem cooks off the lighter molecules and leaves the longer chained stuff
behind to glue up the stem.
