Sticky clutch on 650

The clutch has started sticking a bit on my 650, more so when the motor gets hot. I thought I read on YT suggestions about spraying it with a cleaner like engine degreaser as a temporary quick fix as I think it happens because it gets contaminated with oil that dries out from the heat and the residue is sticky. Is that about right and if so is there somewhere that is a good place to spray it from?

Pull the starter off and then use brake cleaner spray. You will need to spin the engine over some while you do so. Easy to spin the engine some by pulling the plugs out making sure not to mix them up or the firing order will be worng and wit ha tight fan belt you can grab the fan and turn the engine while you or some one else sprays the clutch

Thanks old. I just put new plug wires on and marked them with felt pen - nice bright yellow! Very authentic looking.

sure, cleaning em up as best you can is always good,
but double-check your adjustment.
oh so close clearance between the disk and flywheel/pressure plate when cold can disappear when hot with a dirty disk that swells just slightly.

get the 'freeplay' right
not pedal freeplay..means little on old worn parts.
get your ear down there and move the pedal with your hand.
That gap between the throw-out bearing and fingers with the pedal at high rest....you want very small, but never touching.
so when you push the pedal to the floor....it has enough range to do what it is supposed to.

So is this 'normal' - the pedal disengages almost at the bottom of travel but then re-engages half-way back up. Most things with clutches I have driven engage/dis-engage about the same place.

Thanks.
