Ford 4000 steering shaft assebmly

The ball nut bearings finally wallered out and the nut just falls to the bottom of the worm gear (right hand twist). Here's the problem. I can't find a new shaft for a '68 4000 3 cyl. with power steering. I can find it for a 4000SU, or a 4000 manual steering, or a 4000 pre-'65, but close doesn't really count does it...

Anybody have any insights or help/advice?

If it has the external power steering cylinder on the left side of the tractor, which it should if it's a 1968 4000, then you want the manual steering gear box. From 1/1/1965 through 7/31/1970 the entire steering gear and column were identical between the manual steering and power steering 4000's. The only difference in power steering for that time frame was the external cylinder on the left side that has it's own integrated control valve, along with the mounting bracket and and the change in the drag link to accommodate the cylinder into the setup. It was only after the middle of 1970 when they moved the cylinder inside the steering column that the manual and power steering gear boxes were different.

Great information for future use, added to Favorites, now if I can just remember it when I need it.

Thanks

Yep, it has the power steering cylinder on the left hand side. The nut also only has one arm on it. Man, you don't know how long I've been trying to figure out this steering shaft
assembly puzzle. I sure appreciate it.
