841 diesel return line

Folks,
Have been having problems gaining oil in crankcase. I have repaired the leak off line under the valve cover. But I am still seeing diesel
accumulating under the valve cover. Thought it best to check the small return line from head to bottom of tank for leakage. Disconnected the
line from the fitting on the side of the head, and sure enough I am getting a drip every minute or so. So my question is, how tough is it to
remove the fitting from the bottom front of the tank to access the standpipe? Any tricks? How can I repair the standpipe, replace it with another
line, or solder it? Better yet, does anybody have a good one they would sell? Any advice or help is appreciated in advance.
Tractor has not been ran in over a year, but would like it back in service.

I know for a fact that the standoipe on my 64 4000 is no longer there, yet I don't have any fuel leaking under the valve cover. Are you certain the repairs that were performed to the leak off lines are indeed leak free?

I repaired mine by threading a piece of brake line into where the standpipe broke off. I had to drill it out and thread the brass block. It worked well.

That's a good idea. Correct me if I'm wrong, but is the intended purpose of the sandpipe to reduce the amount of trash that may enter the line?

Do you have the single or double line stand pipe.
Either way it just screws out the bottom of the tank after you drain the tank.

The double fitting has 2 pipes.

The short larger pipe comes from the pump. It is only a couple of inches long. Just enough to get above the crap in the bottom of the tank.

The longer center pipe comes from leak off line and goes almost to the top of the tank.
While the stand pipe keeps pressure off the leak off line; the leak off line needs to be fixed or its gona continue to leak the diesel that is in the line into the crankcase.

Excellent photos. Helps a bunch. I'll drain the rest of my tank and check it out. Just curious, shouldn't there be a more positive seal between the leak off tube and the top of the injectors than using the copper flat washers. Doesn't seem very leak proof to me. How much torque should there be on the leak off tube bolts with the copper washers on either side of the tube fitting?

line is designed to be tall enough to be over fuel level so no standing pressure is on the line..
