4000 ford selectospeed

just looked at a 4000 with selectospeed. pretty nice tractor all around, but is this type tranny ok ? it work fine. been in same family for many years and owned by old auto mechanic. said they would take $2000. very tempted. any advise?

Not much to go on.
Which 4000?
3 cylinder or 4 cylinder?
Tires, tin, paint?
Engine smoke, rattle, knock?
Leaks?
Power steering?
3 point work?
Any remotes?

4cylinder 1964? good tin tires, etc. no smoke, runs great and shifts very well,no detectible leaks, mainly concerned about trans reputation. thanks for your help.

If tires are good, and tractor is mechanical sound I would think it would be a fair price. By 64 the trans had been some what perfected. But I had rather have a 4 or 5 speed. I like the 4 speeds the best but just my opinion.

That trans is over 50 years old now. If it's made it this long, odds are good it will continue to do so. Overall, that trans is pretty solid, IMHO.

I'd jump on it if no obvious issues.

I would not sell my 64 4000 SOS for $5,000.
