ford cab- 4000 to a 340

first thanks for this foum... i have a 340 ford tractor. i have a chance to get a cab off a 1975 ford 4000. can anyone tell me if it will fit... his tractor is blue ,mine is yellow. i thought that meant one was more industrial; than the other.. didn't know what was changed. i think my tractor is late 70'sits just a 340 no letter after.has 3ph and pto

You are correct, 340 is industrial, 4000 is a general purpose ag tractor. I can't say for sure the differences of the 2 models, the 340 is a variant of a 3000 or later model of same, with features suited for industrial work, such as heavy non adjustable front axle etc.

I would look at the cab, if still installed on the 4000 and reference/detail the mounts, measure up, make some notes, and see if it lines up on the 340, the lines on the front across the instrument cluster, hood/tin should be the same, but you'll need to check the mounts to see if there are differences. More than likely with modification, it could fit if that is the case. Can you find out if its a Sims? I have seen Curtis cabs on ford tractors, but Sims appears to be more prevalent, you could get a model number off it and try to cross reference it for fit.

Also, the 340 was the replacement for the 335, which was the replacement for the 3550, which was a 3000 series tractor but it had the double reduction rear axle with the wet brakes from the 4000 series, and so did the 335 and 340, so if the mounts on the cab utilize any connection to the rear axle, which I would assume that it does, then they should fit the axle on the 340 as well.
