What is your Winter tractor project?

The weather went unseasonably cool today and it got me to think about plans for indoor projects. What do you guys have planned for your tractors when the weather pushes you indoors this year?



I'm pretty much on top of the immediate needs of my 640. I have two specific goals in mind for the Winter.


1) I want to take the slop out of the steering from front to back. That means installing the spindle bushing kit and rebuilding or replacing the steering box. All of the tie rod boots could use replacing too. Then I fear mission creep might expand the project. lol.


2) The other project is to fit up 18.4 x 16.1 tires on blank rims. I'll mock up a blank rim with a tire mounted to set the backspace for the wheel centers. Dismount the tire. Then true up the center to the rim at the correct measurement and weld them in. Bead blast the welded assembly, epoxy primer, paint, remount the tires and wait for Spring!
 
My wife says my winter project is getting rid of all the junk in shop, garage, and shed. We'll see, she said that last year too.

I'm working on getting my Wheel Horse tractor's snow blower and cab read to go. I'd better hurry up. After that, its time to get my shop organized, its a wreck.

Awesome. Allis Chalmers? I don't know what part of the country you live in but there's a guy we see at Indiana area antique tractor shows that displays several hundred pedal tractors on 3 trailers. There's a sign that says Grandpas Pedals.
 
My winter project is to find and restore a Ford Industrial 2000 tractor! Hopefully one with a loader and Gannon on the back. (WOW that sounds like a wish list for Christmas) LOL. Still looking and haven't found one yet.....Jim in N.M.

Where abouts are you I'm about 25 miles from the U.S border in Manitoba, it's done exactly the same thing here today. Kinda looks like it
might snow here, or do something As it's dark and cold.
Well you do ask about winter tractor projects so which one of a 10 or more possibles would you like me to talk about L.O.L, Actually I'd like to tear
the motor down in the seized Ford County I picked up a couple months ago Chances are non of mine will get done again as usual customer repairs take
priority for shop space the same as the last few winters, with storing my 2 chore tractors in the shop to. Regards Robert
 
This Winter I plan to clean up a Kubota and three Cubs that I will sell in the Spring. Perhaps all the implements that go with then if time
allows.
 
I can relate.

Winters projects were to replace both of my late model MF tractors with Kubotas.

Bought the "big" Kubota today.

Will sell the "big" MF this fall/winter before buying the smaller Kubota.

Will sell the smaller MF in the spring.

Done with MF/AGCO.

Gunna put a nice battery disconnect on all my tractors... I would show you the one I am going to use but trowed the packages away so don't have a part number... I have already milled out the mounting plates its just a matter of custom fitting them to the tractors...
 
I have two projects lined up:

1) Get into the top cover on my 841-S and see why I'm having hydraulic issues

2) Tear down the gear box on my John Deere 9W Sickle Mower to stop a pretty persistent leak. Also have to figure out how to stop breaking the grease fittings off the top "knuckle" cap. May just braze or weld (JB Weld, maybe?) the hole where the fitting goes and take off the cap to grease the upper rear bearing.
 
Putting FEL back on my 2N in time to push that nasty white stuff that keeps plugging up the driveways all winter
 
No garage big enough for my 4000 or my Kubota, so I don't do much work on them in the winter other than to put a battery tender on them once in a while to keep the batteries up. I do plan to finally get around to replacing the power steering pump on the 4000, but that'll probably have to wait until spring. I've got 100 feet of drainage pipe that I'll hopefully have time to put in with the Kubota before I remove the loader and install the snow blower on it.
 
reassemble a beater Farmall engine that's on the stand and in my way. (oilpump drive gear on the cam got ate, have the cam out and have another cam)

fab up a light duty blade for my little Cletrac crawler.

pull the loader off my 650 and do this and that to it.

pull in a couple of Farmalls (workers) that I have dreaded cleaning
since I got them. Hammer and chisel will be needed for caked on....stuff. sigh

get a hydraulic toplink fabbed up for my go-to NAA.
Might even give it some care and updating. (it's been 15 years since I 'restored' it (restore here means make [i:3928fb628e]everything[/i:3928fb628e] work tip-top and make it not ugly)

That should take me to Jan 1, from Jan first thru about the end of February, my garage heaters won't cut it. Emergency repairs only.
playtime then, plowing snow, and this year I have that half-tracked NAA to baja with. :)
 
First I need to get the poles set in the ground for a 30 x 15 run in shed. Then I need to get all of the lumber to build the shed off the trailer so I can get the mf 230 with loader home to go over it. Then I want to clean it up, get it running right and sell it in the spring. But before that I need to clean out one side of the garage. Of course, then there are the projects down in the wood shop...
