I have a 4000 SOS and it just stopped moving. I have checked fluid level and was/is fine. Drained system, cleaned filter, checked valve body and gasket, refilled and still have no pressure in P,R1,R2,1, 2, 3 & 4. AND Only 20psi 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10. in both servo 2 & 3. trouble shooting sez it may be system relief valve stuck open, does anyone have a picture of where that may be?

Does your pto turn when engaged? If it does not it needs the disc between the engine and trans. if the pto does turn then more
troubleshooting is needed.

Relief valve is in the control valve body. Twould be helpful to know which 4000 you have. Ford made two different 4000s. The 63-64 models would basically be a modified 801 or 901 with a 4 cylinder engine. The 65-74 models will have 3 cylinder engines a squarer look to them.

I have the 4 cylinder model and no PTO. Is it the first valve on the left side, opposite the cable? That is the only valve that doesn't move next to the inching pedal.

Both the transmission relief valve and the regulating valve are located in the upper half of the control valve body. The former is the second valve from the right or trunnion end. The latter is to the far left or inching pedal side.

I seriously doubt that you'll find your problem here, though! I'd more likely suspect problems in your input shaft/ torque limiting clutch area.

When running, fluid seems to be pouring out from of front of the valve body. Is this normal? if so, what's the best way to check the input shaft/ torque limiting clutch possibility?

In your reply below you stated no pto -
which could mean the tractor doesn't have a
pto or the pto is not working. Please
clarify that.
To check the torque limiting clutch and
transmission input shaft you must split the
tractor ie, separate the engine from the
transmission.

(quoted from post at 07:36:29 10/10/15) Any thoughts on the fluid pouring out of the valve body while at 800RPM? is this normal?

Hotrod,

If you are seeing fluid under pressure, it would lead me to believe the TLC is ok. I've serviced my filter etc., but never been into the control valve. It sounds like you may have some type of leak in the valve body causing loss of pressure. Good luck.

Chris

After further inspection we found the main pressure line is broken in half. has anyone replaced this part without splitting the tractor?
