Ford 2000 pto

I just purchased a '68 Ford 2000 3 cylinder gas tractor. My question is (I hope)simple: do I have an option to change my pto from transmission controlled to live?

Yes, but it would require finding a donor tractor and a lot of parts swapping, or just splitting both tractors and swapping everything from the flywheel back.

Easier and probably cheaper in the long run to find one that already has live PTO and buy that one and sell the one that you have.

What tasks and implements do you have in mind that would require a live PTO?

Thank you for the information. No implements I use "require" a live pto. It would just make bush hogging a little easier when I'm doing some back and forth cutting around trees and the barn.

If you need a live pto, sell that tractor and buy a differnt one. I had a 2000 with the trans pto. The best thing I ever did to that tractor was put a pto over riding clutch on it. Running a bushhog behind a trans pto can be scary if you have a lot of stuff to mow around. The rotation of the bushhog will push the tractor several feet when you stop (just ask my gate lol). Check it out. It will take about 5 mins to install or maybe a little longer if you have to shorten your pto shaft. Make sure you get the correct size for your shaft.

Just ordered it...due here in 7 days! Thank you for the heads-up on the part.

If you are wanting to run a brush
mower behind a tractor with
transmission pto an ORC is a must.
Keep in mind you may have to shorten
your mower's driveline if you put the
orc on there.
Not too short or it will fling the
driveline off the tractor.
Too long and it will crowd the
driveline into the tractor and muck
up the pto shaft and seals. Measure
and cut carefully. It's all about
when you raise/lower the mower with
the 3 point. The length of the
driveline will change.
Ask. Great bunch of guys and good
info here.
A 3 cylinder 2000 is a very good
tractor. Reliable. Very handy size.
