Probably could find my answer on line but figured I would post my question anyway for a response. My 63 Ford 4000 gas engine is leaking oil from the valve cover gasket on the exhaust manifold side, my question is: Is it possible to remove the valve cover from the other side of engine without having to remove hood and gas tank and reinstall with new gasket and sealer.

Yes.

I'm not a fan of any type of gasket sealer, especially for cork gaskets (do not use a neoprene gasket) but you will need to adhere the new gasket to the rocker arm cover in this case to facilitate installation.

Be CERTAIN to properly clean the mating surfaces and DO NOT overtighten the rocker arm attachment nuts.

(quoted from post at 18:52:53 09/27/15) Also, what is the absolute best sealer to use with new gasket?

Back in the early 1970"s I worked for VW. We used 3M Fasttack ( a headliner adhesive ) to glue the cork valve cover gaskets to the valve covers. Worked great. Held gasket in place and was easy to clean off the next time. never had a cork gasket leak as long as it was in place when tightened down.

Yes, the valve cover is designed and built with a curve so that you can roll it out to the right without removing the tank. It can help though to loosen the front mount of the gas tank and lift it up a little. I always use just a thin smear of permatex blue silicone on the top of the gasket and press it into the valve cover to insure that it stays in place as I put the cover back in position.

I generally don't like sealer on most gaskets, unless specifically called for, however I use #2 permatex and use a completely cleaned cover so you can 'glue the gasket to the cover for reinstall.
