I was having a problem for a few weeks with my 971D not wanting to start. It was cranking good but not firing up. Not even white smoke. just a sniff of ether would get it going. I thought that I was headed for another expensive repair, but then I read your post about the metering valve sticking and working the shut-off back and forth before shutting down. So I did work it back and forth a bunch of times, then added a good shot of Power Service fuel treatment, and next time it started. Next time I went to use it it stated right up again, and I worked it pretty hard for about an hour and a half, then cycled the shut-off a few times before shutting it down. Today it started right up for me three times. I am pretty sure that I don't have rust, but I could have moisture in the system due to very high humidity for,the last four weeks or so. The filter probably has under twenty hours on it. So far it is looking like your suggestion cured it. Thanks.
