Front hub seal 600 series

So, am I to understand these inner bearing seals seal on the vertical face of the spindle instead of the manner a typical modern grease seal would seal around the shaft that the bearings ride on? I replaced what was left of the old seal with the same part number but it simply drops into the back side of the hub. It is not a tight fit at all on the OD of the seal to the hub nor on the ID of the seal to the diameter of the spindle shaft.
 

I believe the seal your talking about is suppose to be set in the hub, not on the spindle. But someone could have replaced either the hubs or the spindles and the sizes dont work correctly anymore.

If it's supposed to get driven into the hub like a typical modern car or trailer hub grease seal is, then this is clearly the wrong seal.
 
The "seals" are not an interference fit.

The OEM seals "seal" against the mating surface of the spindle.

The "seals" are not intended to keep the grease in, but rather, the dust out.

Be advised that some suppliers are selling conventional grease seals for use with vintage Ford tractors. If you have these, get the proper OEM style.

I guess that's why you can buy those hub caps with a zerk fitting. The grease has somewhere to go if you start pumping it into the hub instead of popping a seal out it just oozes out past the dust seal at the spindle mating surface? I definitely have the oem style. Since I don't have the caps with the zerk fittings, how often do I pull the hub down and repack the bearings?
