naa hydraulic oil

i put hytran oil in the hydraulic system on my naa, is this the right type of oil for this system? i am having trouble keeping my vane pump primed. hyds work great after it gets primed. sometimes takesa while to prime if it even does

hytran should be fine in the hydraulic sump on that tractor, as it is a separate sump and doesn't need any other properties than to be a good hydraulic fluid.

Your tractor's hydraulic system should not be losing prime when parked. The fact that it is losing prime and that it is hard to get it to prime after you start the tractor sounds like there is an air leak on the suction side of the system. Add to that the fact that once you do get it to prime the lift works well says that it is a very small leak.

I would drain the system and keep the oil to re-use and then pull the two hard lines going from the bottom of the hydraulic sump to the pump and replace the o-rings at both ends of both lines as the first step. Granted, you probably only need to replace the o-rings on the suction line to remedy the loss of prime issue if that is where the leak is, but if the suction line o-rings are leaking then the ones on the pressure line are likely just as old and since they aren't much more money to replace, I would do them all while you have it drained down.

hopefully it is not a wore out pump.. but repalcing the orings sure would be a cheap way to start.

next, if it is the pump, it may be $$easier$$ to just install a petcock in a plug hole to facilitate quick bleeding vs a chunk of grocery money for a pump.

the suction side is the small line or the big line? I also have a remote one way vale mounted on it and that appears to have a small leak out of the handle, would that have anything to do with it

Suction side should be the larger diameter line. The remote valve is on the pressure side of the pump, so a leak there shouldn't affect the prime when sitting.

One thing you can do as a helper to prime it when you first start it is to point the nose of the tractor down hill, if you get the pump lower than the fluid level in the hydraulic sump then it should prime easier.
