Red Tiger running hot!

Got my 841 running but after 10 minutes or so the head is so hot that i can't hold my fingertips on it. I know the engine may run hotter than a worn engine due to
tightness of the new pistons and sleeves but this may be a bit much. My question is how hot are the Tigers meant to run. Just for comparison, i idled my MF35 with a Z134
gas engine for about ten minutes and the head was barely warm to the touch. I built the 35 about fifteen years ago. The radiator seems to show a lot of turbulence leading
me to believe that the water pump is moving the coolant through. The radiator is not new but i cleaned the fins and ran a hose through before using. Also the temperature
gauge isn't new either and the cable does not warm up.
thanks

You should NOT be able to touch the head on any engine with a working thermostat.

What does the gauge say?

It it does not register, then it might be bad, replace before running any more.

Well if the engine is running as it should be the block will be in the 160-180 degrees heat range and there is not way I would want to hold my fingers to that type of heat and I am a welder by trade so hot stuff does not bother me like it would most people.

Sounds normal for a motor with a working thermostat, I don't know about your fingers but mine don't like more than 120 to 130 at most, and a thermostat doesn't open till 190 so sounds fine to me. Also never saw the "cable" aka capillary tube of a temp gauge heat up, that's not how they work, it is simply a bulb of fluid at the end that expands and pushes up the tube actuating the needle

Yes new rebuild and timing is set at manual specs (I think 4 BTC but i'm not looking at it). Anyway tractor runs very well and idles at 475 but I just want to be carefull with her. i've done several 8Ns but this is my first Tiger.

candy/meat thermometer stuck in the neck after it warms up takes all the guesswork out.
(handy for seeing how accurate your gauge is too)

flush it out, just in case it wasn't flushed when the new radiator went in.
since you have a timing light, check to make sure the advance is working properly.
(I want my tractors to have the proper advance at high rpm, where it does its work....that super low rpm being right too is just a bonus)

ps if you can lay your hand on the [i:289550a0ec]head[/i:289550a0ec] of your other tractor when its warmed up and running....I'd check [i:289550a0ec]its[/i:289550a0ec] thermostat.
