I had a water pump failure on my "new" '53 Jubilee. I decided to replace other cooling system parts along with the pump, including: hoses, temp gauge, thermostat, and fan belt.
The vendor's 160 degree thermostat that they sent (EAF8575BWG - Ford '53-'64) has a slight lip on the edge of the widest part of the housing that is not in the existing thermostat design. The guy who helped me replace the water pump was concerned that the gasket would not seal correctly because of this lip. So, we chose to re-use the old thermostat. Should the lip have been a concern?
I will try to post a picture later of this lip.
