Ford 600 Series, new to me

I inherited my dads Ford tractor. I need to figure out exactly what it is in order to fix a few problems it has. All I know about it is that it has a "600 Series" emblem on the front grille and my dad said it was built in the 50's. Where do I look to find numbers(assuming stamped numbers) in order to figure out what I have?

Put your left hand on the starter which is on the left side of the tractor. Now right in front of you there are 2 bolt holes that are horizontal. Just above them is the model number and serial numbers.

You might have to carefully scrape some paint off if they filled in. There will be two lines of numbers. The top 3 numbers will be the model number. The line below will be the serial number and it will begin and end with a diamond symbol. If you get the diamond at each end, you know you found all of the numbers. Expect the numbers to be a little hard to read. They didn't punch these all square and sometimes they used a punch upside down to mimick a different character like a 9 being used as a 6, etc.

Got it. So, its a model number 630 and serial number 127842. Any idea on deciphering these numbers or where to go to look them up.

A 630 is a 600 series tractor, which means that it has the 134 ci gasoline engine, and the 3 in the middle means that when it left the factory it had the 4 speed transmission and 3 point lift, but no PTO. So it was basically the same tractor as the 640, but with no PTO. Many have had the PTO added at a later time.

127842 is the serial number, which means it was made in 1957, which was the last year of the hundred series tractors.

You can learn a lot more about the hundred series tractors, and the models that came before and after on John Smith's web site here:
