trouble shooting hydraulic system

Just want to first check for leaks by removing side plates. Can you see more from one side than the other? Is it better to remove both, or is one better than the other? Does removing the pto side present any difficulty due to the pto lever, or is it no big deal? What all can be checked by this method without removing top cover? System is leaking down fairly quickly but when cycling the touch control lever it will raise again, but sometimes not all the way up. It is rather inconsistent in it's operation. Thanks for any help.

n order to expect any help, you should at least tell what tractor? that you are dealing with.

With out telling us what tractor you have it is hard for us to help you help your self. Ford made a lot of different models and trouble shoot them are not always the same

That being the case I'd go with your first plan of attack and pull the side plates.... Yank the lowest bolt first, if fluid starts coming out you'll know to grab the drain pan.

My 3 cyl was doing similar to your description, I was 2 gal low and the suction line had pinholes.
