1964 Ford 2000 tractor clutch questions

Folks I'm new to the forum as well as owning my own tractor as of today. Prior to buying a 1964 Ford 2000 the seller told me up front the clutched seemed to be a little "sticky" but thought it would loosen up with use as the tractor had sat up for awhile but did say I may have to replace it if it didn't. My questions are;
A) Is it difficult/complicated to replace a clutch?
B) How do I tell if mine has a "overrunning clutch"?
C) If/when I replace clutch can I put in an overrun clutch if it does not have one or could I put in a two stage clutch/live PTO?

I've driven tractors often but no very little to their detailed workings so any and all advise will be appreciated and using simple terms won't hurt my feelings.

thanks

Welcome to the Ford board.
That is a great tractor.
Not sure what you mean by sticky.
Does it chatter when you release it or lurch forward or grab hard?
A stuck clutch that wont disengage is a common problem on those tractors.
It's generally caused by a rear main seal leak that get oil on the clutch and kinda glues the disc to the flywheel.
Many guys here block the clutch down when they put the tractor away to prevent it. Block the clutch pedal down with a piece of 2x4 or a C clamp.
How hard is hard?
A clutch job is not that difficult.
Requires that you split the tractor in half between the engine and transmission to replace the clutch. Basic hand tools, hard floor, a good rolling floor jack or hoist and some wood blocking.
Live pto is accomplished by means of a double clutch. If your tractor does not have it you can't add it.
Over running clutch is not related to the tractor's clutch. It is a slip on device that goes on the end of the pto shaft.
Only used when using a brush hog type mower. About $50 at any farm type store or from this site.
Get yourself a manual. Get the I&T FO-20 manual that shows all about how to fix your tractor. About $30 also available from this site.
It's mice to have an owner's manual for your tractor too. About 70 pages on the use, adjustment, features, lubrication and maintenance schedules, safety and a lot of other useful stuff. Available new or used on Ebay, etc.

if you have the proper tools not too difficult. without the proper tools PITA!

if you decide to spilt ask a bazillion questions of the guys here.

Well "sticky" is how the seller explained it but from what I can tell with clutch fully depressed it is difficult to get into gear. Not all the time but often there's a little bit of grinding sound trying to bump it into gear(s). no problem so far taking out of gear. Sorry if I'm using the wrong terminology.

Jim- thanks brother if/when I get to the actual point of making a decision on a direction I will definitely holler out for some advise. I think Im just a little giggly excited right now to finally have my own tractor. As silly as that sounds been gone for 22 years in the Army and have finally retired home in SW GA back on "the family farm" working as Deputy Sheriff done went and got some horses and such so now I got pastures to mow, fences to mend, corrals and stalls to build and a working tractor will go a long way vs going all hand tools and such.

Ultradog MN- thanks a bunch that does explain a lot especially about the Over running clutch. I've been steadily reading/surfing sites on the subject trying to get smart on it. I actually do have I&T FO-20 manual along with an old ford tractors restoration book and looking for the owners manual to especially for routine maintenance info/schedules/ how everything works/etc. Being retired military I'm all about a manual....with pictures for some of us slow folks.

It matters whether it is has the four or five speed transmission. If it is a five-speed, it has live PTO. If it is a four-speed, it does not. The four-speed transmission cannot have live PTO retrofitted to it.

Live PTO is highly desirable, but it's much more expensive to replace the two-stage live PTO clutch than the standard clutch of the four-speed. In any case, you don't want to replace the clutch if you don't have to.
