Tractor hydraulics v power pack ???

A few months ago I was helped sort a problem with my tractor which was not powering the log splitter. Turned out to be a simple matter of me not topping the correct filling port.
A few people had advised not using the tractors hydraulics as it would be an inefficient way to power the splitter. One idea was to use a stand alone hydraulic power pack. I'm about to buy one which I can use when splitting logs at the customers land ( I sell logs for a living ).
The question is :- Can I buy any type I.e. The sort that would power a concrete breaker or should I be looking at a different ???

I understand this is not a direct question on tractors but this forum does have some clever members.

Thanks - John
