On the 800 diesel I see two air filters, one at the engine and one on the side of the tractor. Just wondering which was first, and is one better than the other? You would think that the later would be better or why did they change it. I have both and am going to use the one at the engine unless someone suggest not to. Thanks and have a gooden

There was no such thing as an 800 diesel. The diesel engine was introduced in 1958 with the '01 series after the hundred series production had ended.

The square box down by the intake manifold was the early one, made from 1958-1962. The round canister style that sits up outside the hood is the later style and was actually introduced in 1963 with the 4 cylinder 2000 and 4000 series.

Thanks Sean, I didnt know there were no diesels before 58.Thats what I like about this forum, always learning something. Fifty years if enough time to change everything on a tractor. Not checked my serial number, but Im guessing I have a doner filter From the 60's on one of mine. Thanks again

Later model air filters on early prior model diesel Ford tractors is not uncommon.
