Gonna replace the safety valve on my 4000 4cyl. According to the IT manual need to remove lift cover accessory plate and safety valve. Is this as simple as it sounds? Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.

ou didn't say what problem you are trying to solve or avoid, but I will point out that that valve is as you say the safety valve, the ram cylinder safety valve, and is not the system over pressure valve. The latter in in belly of center section.

The problem is that it is drifting down slowly while running or not. IT manual says to start by checking for leaking cylinder and if that is ok then to replace safety valve that can be accessed by removing accessory plate. If that doesn't fix it the check valve could be the issue which would require removing top cover to service.

There will always be some leakdown. New will drop some over time. I would lean more to control valve and bushing worn. I have this problem on a 5000. Replaced piston seal and other orings and didn't correct it. Need to see if these parts avaible new and fix rite.
