Ford 4000 sos

Been messing with a 4000 3 cyl sos. Bought it dead, and replaced the torque limiting clutch and got it going

Since getting it going, has always been slow to engage in reverse and 9, 10. It had sat for a couple of years before I got it, so I kept thinking after some use and fresh oil it would loosen up.

Not so much. Finally hooked up some gauges and by my book shows it as a leak in clutch 1 circuit. So my question is how do I find the leak? Is it possible that it's a sticky valve in the control valve? It has the older one, that the plungers return via spring pressure. I have a new control valve of the new style, that moves the plungers by levers both ways, but I can't find the oil return tube to go with it. I'm tempted to run it without and see what happens. I assume the oil will make it to the bottom of the transmission on its own withoutthe pipe

Any suggestions on how to find the leak issue or a 9/68+ oil return tube would be good

A day and a half and no replies.
I wish I could help but have less than
limited knowledge on those things.
My pal Kenny has an SOS out of a 4400 he
would sell for about scrap price.
He was going to scrap it but I offered to
store it in the shed up at my land.
It wouldnt move at all going forward and
only kinda, sorta wanted to go in reverse.
Cost for shipping to WA or where ever you
are would probably be prohibitive but just
thought I'd offer.

Thought I had posted a reply but apparently it didn't stick.

I'm in northern MO, so not as far away, but I don't recall what part of MN you are from.

What year was the 4400? Email works if you want to talk more there. [email protected]
