Hey to all. I am new here,so please bear with me. I have searched this forum for a question I have about my 1967 Ford 2000. The generator light is acting oddly. When it is first cranked at about 600-800 RPMs the generator lights goes off. As the engine is accelerated the light begins to get brighter and brighter as the RPMS increase. If it was the reverse and the light got dimmer with more RPMs,that would be normal? I have never seen this problem before. Any help would be appreciated, thanks for your time!

Does key on = lamp on?

At 2/3 throttle, what does a meter say about bat voltage?

Have you motor tested Genny?

Have not tested Generator. I will check voltage at 2/3 throttle when get home today. Thanks for getting back to me.

Sorry I missed the first part of your reply. No light when the key is turned to on. Voltage regulator???

First thing I'd do is make sure the fan belt is tight and not slipping.... Classic sign right there. Second thing I'd do is toss the generator in the scrap bin and install and alternator.

Ok,sorry to be so long getting back to this, life got in the way. I was wrong the generator light does come on when the switch it turned to on. It goes out in low RPMs and Comes back on as the RPMs increase. I checked voltage when off and running at around 800 RPMs and the reading was the same. So,generator rebuild? Voltage regulator? Punt? :)

he light is getting brighter & brighter as rpms increase because the generator output voltage is increasing and it is not connected to the battery. That light bulb is connected across the VR's cut out contacts, so if those contacts are closed, thus connecting gen to battery, then the bulb is shorted out (no voltage, no light). Connections or VR would be my search areas.
