Ford 4000 Air Cleaner

In the process of restoring my 1966 Ford 4000 3-cylinder diesel, I have decided to replace the oil-bath air cleaner assembly versus stripping and repainting the original; here lies the head scratcher: in looking up the correct part to order, all the parts listings show the correct air cleaner for the 4000 as being the 7" diameter assembly with the 2 1/4" inlet ( #C5NE9600E), but the air cleaner that I took off the tractor is the 6" assembly with the 2" inlet 9C5NE9600f)....all the listings say this is the air cleaner for the 2000 and 3000. This assembly appears to have been original to the tractor as best I can tell. Can anyone who may have a 1966 4000 tell me what you have on your tractor, or give any other insight? I'm concerned if I install the 7" diameter unit that the lower grille screen might not fit.

I went through that on my 4400.
6" vs 7", 2" vs 2 1/4".
The 7" Will fit behind the grill as there
is a flattened area on the stiffing band to
accomodate the larger canister.
What size is your air tube from the
cannister to the manifold?
I think you'll find most are 2". And the
inlet to the manifold is only 2".
Plus it's harder to find a mushroom cap in
2 1/4".
I ended up with a 7" filter, 2 1/4" tube
but 2" mushroom. I also had a 2" exhaust
outlet for the horizontal muffler.
I don't know if it was correct but the
engine made good power and I got tired of
messing with it.
