861 Proofmeter not working

Hi all,
I have a '60 861D that I'm just getting put back together after a strip-down, 100% tin replacement, and paint job. I put in a new proofmeter and new cable, but the proofmeter is not working. Is there some sort of additional part in one end of the cable or the other that I'm missing?

When I acquired it, the old proofmeter was a rusted hulk with no glass, and the cable was MIA, so I wasn't able to see what was there originally. I've looked at the exploded diagram on the NH site, but I don't see anything that is separate from the proofmeter and cable.

Thoughts, suggestions?

TIA

Take the bottom end off the pump and check the way the end fits into what you see at the back of the pump.

Did so, and now see that there IS a separate "adapter" at the end of the drive cable - apparently it came with the cable and I didn't notice it 'till now. It inserts into the bottom end of the cable sheath, and is removable.

Trouble is, when I insert this piece into the pump spline and run the engine, it does not turn, so apparently there is something amiss inside of the pump.

I need to look at an exploded diagram of the pump and see what might be busted.

Thanks to both for responses.
