I took my 961 and made a puller out of
it. This winter I ant to finish
lightening it up and I want to remove
the live pto shaft from the clutch
housing. And go to a single clutch disc
and fly wheel will the part from an 851
or 951 give me the parts I need? Does
any body on hear have pictures they
could post of 951 or 851 flywheel and
clutch. Thanks jt

I didn't replace the clutch on mine but I did a few other things. I removed the power steering and welded ends into tubing for the drag link. I replaced the generator with a gutted one. I removed the hydraulics and put on a gear to drive the proof meter, and fabbed a rear end cover/seat support from aluminum plate. I replaced the gas tank with a plastic one from a lawn mower, and I put on smaller front wheels and tires. I pull in 3500.

The parts from a 851 or 951 will fit. You need to change the flywheel pressure plate, clutch disc, and complete imput shaft and housing assembley. This will also give you a 10 " clutch instead of the 9" you now have. If you have the Winter 2014 Ford/Fordson Collectors Journal there is a whole article on making the change.I can e-mail you the article if you don't have it.

There are some differences between years. We have also found different flywheel & clutch thicknesses between gas and diesel non live 5 speeds. I recommend finding a complete set of shafts, flywheel, clutch shaft & throw out bearing in a running tractor. You don't need to do anything to the PTO it will just be non live when your done. Unless you want to loose a small amount of weight.

We ran 2 stage clutches in two 960s at 70 Hp for 8 years and didn't have clutch issues. They were rebuilt by a truck clutch company.

We currently run a 10" 6 puck ceramic clutch from Waters Tractor in Othello, Wa. and are extremely pleased with them.

Are you making other modifications? I usually start at 3750

Here is a pic I have stripped most parts and made aluminum cover already I'm just looking to go in this winter and lighten it some more it is below 3500 now with my nephew's on it I'm not sure if it will go 3500 with me.

Mine weighs between 3480 and 3530 with me (210) on it and no weights. At some places we pull we are allowed 100 lbs. over to compensate for inaccuracy in the scales. 3750 (3850) is about as light as I like to pull it with all the weight on the front.
