5610 transmission top removal

I have a 5610 with manual transmission. Stuck clutch and the main gear selector is stuck in 4/8th gear. The hi/lo range selector works fine.
Jacked up rear end and rocked rear tires. Did not help.
Guess I need to remove the top of the transmission to see what is going on. Are there any precautions when removing the top. Are there any springs or small pieces that will fall out?
Do the shift levers have to be removed before taking the top off?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

If you've got the 8x2 transmission then removing the top is not a big deal... I would pay close attention to things as you lift it off but best I recollect there's nothing that's going to fly out at you. If you have the 8x4 then things with the shift linkage are a bit more complicated. It's so long since I looked at one of them I can't remember the specifics but seems to me there's something funny in the main shift lever when you remove that.

Rod. I went ahead and removed the top cover. I do have the 8x2 transmission. Got the gear shift levers un-stuck and put the top back on. Clutch is still stuck. Been driving around hoping the clutch will break loose. Work on it tomorrow and see. Thanks for the info.

I find the best way to unstick a clutch like that, provided you're sure it's just stuck and not a release mechanism problem.... I put the tractor in sixth gear and drive it around at mid throttle with the clutch fully depressed... and stomp on the brakes hard enough to lug the engine down hard. A combination of quick snaps on the brakes and the hard lugging will often brake the rust free. If it doesn't you may as well just split it. Couple hours will split an open station 2wd 10.

I did the driving around this morning. Drove thru hay field with bungee strap holding the clutch pedal down. Would try the brake from time to time. It finally broke loose and has been working like it should. Hope it stays unstuck. This time has really been a tough one. Had the clutch sticking problem about 20 or 25 years ago with this tractor. Thank you for the advise.

Now that you got it free... what I would do is intentionally make the clutch slip for a bit... Hold the pedal down enough to make it just release, then hold the brakes and give the clutch a decent little burn. A couple of 15-30 second bursts a few minutes apart. You don't want it to get hot. You just want to burnish the rust off the flywheel and pressure plate.
Actual use is what it needs.
