Ford 2000 injector pump

The pump was leaking. Removed it and put new seals without disassembling the pump.Reinstalled and now cannot get the tractor to start. Does the pump only go in one way? As long as the pump and gear indentation line up it is good? Or does pump need to be turned 360 or more? Also how to remove injector nozzles? Then check spray pattern? Thanks, Donald

yes it will drop right in at 180 degrees out. it has been awhile but I have had them out of two Old Fords. Try pulling it out and turning the motor with the nut on the front pulley until you have it 180 degrees from where it is now. To remove the injectors you remove the valve cover, and you will see that they are held in place by two nuts on studs. You remove the nuts and use an injector puller or a small, sized pry- bar. You need to be very careful not tho pry too hard. You will, need to take them to an injection shop to ge the tested unless you have a pop-off tester.

The drive shaft has an offset tang at the engine drive end that is designed to be installed one way only, but if it lacks going into place and the nuts used to draw it down when its 180 out of time the drive shaft usually breaks when the head locks up due to misalignment. There is a chance it's OK, but out of time internally if the shaft and rotor dots are not lined up. Was it in time before pump was removed? I've also seen pumps on JD tractors with the internal dot misaligned on purpose because of the oil pump installed wrong by 1/2 turn, so the shaft is turned 1/2 to get the engine in time to run instead of correcting the oil pump being in wrong..

It ran before I took it of. It had numerous leaks on the pump. Bought a kit and put new crush washers and gaskets and a new o ring type seal on the back plate. Put it back on the tractor and now can't get it to start. I lined up the slot in the gear to the pump. Does not seem to be getting a lot of diesel when bleeding the lines at the injector. Also did not think to see if the exhaust was getting any smoke. Will check this morning.
