9700 turning pump

Not one tiny fraction less than all the way, and then advance the timing to 29 degrees. Seriously go all the way then back off a half turn or the linkage can keep it from going quite all the way. This is how I have been pulling my 9000 for about eight years. Go to Utube and search for "Ford 9000 tractor pull Bob Bohondoney". Have your wife record you and put it up. I will be looking.

I have a "twist" on showcrop's advice: Turn it up until the engine throws a rod out the side of the block, and then back it off half a turn. Should be about right then.

I know that you have a lot of experience Bern, but an experienced Ford tractor mechanic told me "go ahead you can't hurt it." So I pulled for one season at half way then for about six with it all the way. Then two years ago I sent the pump out and got it worked up to double the amount of fuel. I know that it probably voids the warrantee but you know as well as I that any tractor that you see at a pull whether in person or on line, putting up black smoke has had the fuel turned up significantly. You don't need to turn up RPMs to turn up fuel.

Don't take my comments the wrong way. I was merely having as little fun at your expense. I especially liked the "back off a half turn" comment.

I don't have a big problem turning up engines for tractor pulls. I do however have an issue with doing this for something that is going out into the field and working all day long.

OK thanks for the clarification, and Mark, yes you have the right screw.

Thanks for the help. But i ended up not even getting to pull cause it rained for a good hr when it first started and ran out of time for the last 2 classes. I did turn my pump up it went 5 full turns and i backed off half turn like you said. I did see a difference in the black smoke a little bit but i dont think i noticed much of a throttle response and i couldnt move around cause i was blocked in lol. But now i will know for next time

Showcrop, did you have 9.5 mm barrels and plungers installed in the pump? What turbo and injectors are you running? I watched your videos and it looks like you have it running pretty strong.
Thanks, Chad

Yeah, it looks strong until you watch who I'm hooking against, LOL. I will have to check into the plungers and barrels. It was done by Wimer's in PA. It pumps double what it did originally. The injectors are stock but with 5 hole instead of 4 hole tips. The tubing is original. The turbo is stock, maybe even the original that came in it. I could get a lot more with a bigger turbo and tubing and turning the pressure up more, but before doing that I would need to put in 9/16 head bolts.
