"I finally got it licked". Been having issues with the power steering on our (airport mower) '64 Ford 5000. It never worked from when they got it and no one even realized it had power steering. First was to fix all the leaks in the piston and valve section. Then adjust the bolts on the bell crank. Steered fine except when sitting still. No power then compared to my 4500 Ind that steers with one finger even with the bucket full. Had time to pull the pump off today expecting to feel the gears worn from running dry too long. What I found was the flow control valve jammed solid. Had to hammer it out with a punch. Blew out the chips and polished the valve with some 400 paper until it slid freely. Now I can spin the steering wheel with one finger while the front wheels dig themselves into holes in the ground.
