Ford 4500 Stops moving after it heats up

I recently bought a ford 4500 backhoe 1975 with shuttle shift 4 forward and 4 reverse. When it warms up (after about an hour or so) the transmission feels really hot. Steam starts coming out where the shifter is and it stops wanting to move forward or backward. If I let it sit for a minute it will work for a little bit again then stop again. There was water in the tranny fluid so I drained it and changed filter. Problem still remains. Fluid looks better but still a little chocolatey milk ish. I have heard a few things from internal hydraulic pump or a valve stuck?? or a plugged mesh screen down in tranny. or a cracked suction tube down in tranny. besides the filter and fluid change, what is the order and difficulty of the next troubleshooting checks from easiest to most difficult without having to split the tractor? Splitting the tractor is something I am not sure I can do...I am pretty handy but have never done it before.

There is a small access plate on the bottom of the bell housing and when tou take that off there is a tube with a plug in it.
That is the point where you put a gauge on to test the hydraulic pressure of the pump. I forget, however, what it is supposed to
be. Don't even remember if it is supposed to have a cooler on it (built into the radiator I mean).

Forgot to mention; The transmission is supposed to have an overheat light that does a self check when the key is turned on. Also
the trans cooler is in the bottom of the radiator. System won't run (for long) without that cooling operational.

Yeah tranny fluid runs through filter to radiator and back to tranny. Just don't know how to check any of it. Seems like both lights on the dash are on when the key is on. is that a temp sensor on top of the tranny near the shifter? I don't have a manual.
