Just bought a Ford Jubilee and wondering what position should the key be in when running...There appears to be 3 positions. All the way back(towards the seat) starts the tractor no problem but the Battery appears not to be charging
Any help will be greatly appreciated,

Welcome to the forums.
Originally, your Jubilee would have had a two position key switch.
On or off. No start position. Not spring loaded, etc.

So, to help you we would need to know what you have there.
6V/12V? How is it currently wired? There are many ways to make
it work so it's hard to say exactly what you have from here.

Thanks

This tractor is a 12volt system. It has a 3 position ignition. The past owner said that you have to turn the key all the way to the rear(seat end) and once it starts you have to bring the key all the way forward or the battery wont charge. When I move it into any forward positions, it shuts off? I have to boost it everytime I need to start it. Seem like its not charging?? The battery is not old and it has a somewhat new alternator?

That sounds like an aftermarket automotive type ignition switch.
Lots of guys put them on because the original switch was know
to be a common failure point. Nothing wrong with them except
they bypass your neutral safety switch.

What kind of alternator does it have?
The Delco 10si one wire or three wire setup is common.
If it is a three wire setup it would need to get excitation voltage
from the key switch to charge.

Without seeing how its wired, all I can do is guess at the
problem but if it used to work with the key turned a certain
way then I would guess that position was supplying the excitation
voltage and now it is not. You could trace that wire from the
alternator back to the switch and verify it is getting power.
Check for a broken wire, bad connection or a bad switch.

I know you keep repeating the same thing so this will be my only post to you.

my advice:

put in an on/off 2 position switch.

get the starter working off the oem thumb switch in the trans cover ( likely need a new relay ).

then tell us about the charge system.

you may need a rewire if it has been butchered.
