1958 ford 621 4cly gas

What am i missing?. I took this eng out of a 1960 641 and it ran great. I have all parts from a running tractor and tryed stuff one at a time. I will say i forgot to change the 6volt coil and ran it with a 12volt alt. i did give it a new set of points before i put it in the tractor. It seem to run good in the beginning. I have now changed the coil swap all elc parts can't get it to run right. it won't rave up and pops out the carb. i have been around eng a long time but i am missing something. Did i do something to the new points buy having the 6volt coil with 12 volt?. Thanks for any advise.

6v coil on 12v makes excess primary current. That thermally damages the coil and points to some extent. more damage the longer you run.

As for not revving up and popping...

did you change timing?

did you use the carb from the running engine? it sounds LEAN.. does a little choke help it any?

simple first
if you had the spark plug wires off...do them again, ya missed.
if you had the distributor out...static time it again..ya missed.

all in fun...but it happens.....pulling my hair out once...I said fine...pulled the wires...and distributor...threw them on the bench...and went and had a beer....came back later and did it from scratch...ran fine.

Plug wires on right (4 & 3 especially)?

Also, you put a known good engine etc. into an old (non-running?) tractor? If so, is the fuel tank and sediment bowl clean? Maybe got some gunge in the carb.

Firing order correct?? 1,2,4,3 is how they should be. Poor gas flow causing it to run lean can also do that so does choking it help or hurt?
