641--remove air cleaner

I need advice--I need to remove the air cleaner unit from my 641. Just looking it looks simple. Just remove the air hose to the Carb and then remove two bolts that hold the unit to the batery box. Is that all there is to it or am I missaing something? Thanks in advance for any help

No. It is full of water. That is why I have to take it off. The top is flat and I think it has a rust hole. I will remove the air cleaner and check it. I never removed one before that is why I was checking to be sure there is not a stEp that I MISSED. Thanks again for the help

You should be able to remove the oil cup and get all the water out that way then clean it out and fill it with oil.

I did. Five times but after every rain storm it is full of water, that is why I suspect a rust hole. I cleaned it out and poured watewr over the top and it is full of water again. Now I want to take the unit off and repair it

Well not sure what type of air cleaner you have but on my 841 there is a side screen sort of thing that covers the end of the air cleaner so almost no way to get water in it unless you have a strong wind but your may have the top cap like some tractor do and that top cap should pop right off and be able to be replaced.

The filter on my 901 will catch water only in a wind driven rain. it has happened twice in 18 years.

Removal, the two bolts, hose. There is a funnel at the top that is attached to the hood so you will have to lift and tilt a little and swing the bottom out. If you are having any difficulties removing you can also take the vent off the hood and unscrew the funnel. Between the vent and funnel there should also be a screen to help keep debris out. I'm not sure if this will help with your water problem but if it's missing it would hurt to install one to see if it helps.

My 641 gets water in it depending on the direction of the wind. I have gotten water in it several times and there is no rust hole. Someday I will have some sort of structure to house my tractors but for now, I cover the air vent with a small tarp. I did have a magnetic sheet over it (the kind that ads are printed on for calendars and such) but I lost that. Now that I am thinking about it, we just had some hellacious thunderstorms here. I better check it!
