Ford 3600 hydraulic potential problem

Have stock 2 remote set up. Blew a hose, albeit a weakened one. It was the one connected to the "drop" port on the left side valve, #4 in the operators manual. Under what condition would there be any pressure at the drop port? With hose removed and the "fast dump" screw closed (in) and tractor running, valves in neutral position, no hydraulic at dump port. As I begin to back the dump screw out, hydraulic fluid begins to flow out of the dump port. That doesn't seem right to me. Also, is it even possible to operate, with pressure both ways, a two-way cylinder from that particular (the second or right side one) remote valve? Or is two way cylinder operation only available from the left side valve?

Hi Kurt Don't know what set up you have so I will assume it is two sets (i.e pairs of) remote valves controlled by levers just under the seat. If these are dual acting as for normal operation then there will be pressure in each line as oil is supplied to each side of a dual acting hydraulic ram. I think the dump valve is only there so that a single acting ram can have a single line attached to one remote. I may be way off here but hope that might help.

as said, post a pic of your setup.

on a DA valve and cyl using 2 hoses, the hoses alternate one being pressured, one being return to sump.

in valves with a setup for fast dump or SA, you can use one hose, and the other port instead of deadheading just goes to sump

With levers in neutral position, doesn't seem there would be any hydraulic fluid or pressure applied to either the lift or the dump hoses. IT manual figure 279/280 is what I have.

When you move the handle from center to open the valve in either direction with the tractor running then the hose from the valve to the rear remote connector gets pressurized. Returning the handle to the center position does not relieve the pressure, as that would cause a cylinder that's under a load to retract, which is not what you want in most cases. To relieve the pressure in the remote hoses, turn off the tractor and open the valves in both directions a couple of times.
