Oil pump prime

Did it again. Started assembling parts before previous chore was completed. My question is after I remove my hydro pump from block to access my oil line, would a good dose of 80-90 directly onto line prime the new pump? Or it might be just as good to go into line from the oil pressure gauge. Any thoughts? Also does anyone know what the bolt hole in the block just behind coil is used for as shown in picture?
Thanks

Your post has me slightly confused... what pump are you trying to prime? a replaced oil pump or a replaced hydro pump?

An oil pump can be pre lubed and should pick right up, some people pack with light grease or lube in something thick like stp, that is generally all that is needed to make a pump self prime.

I was referring to the oil pump. I installed a new pump and did not take apart to pack with grease. My assumption is filling oil pressure line with heavy oil to prime pump. Now that you mention priming the hydro pump, is that needed or will it self prime once the engine starts.
thanks

Both pumps - should - self prime if healthy.

You can always spun the oil pump by removing the dizzy..

it's a manufacturing hole... all of them have it. will be plugged with something similar to a core or welch plug
