My PTO shaft would disengage periodically under heavy load while brush hogging. As advised by folks here I parked the nose in a ditch and pulled the shaft. The inside split ring(s) and bearing looked good. However, there is about 1/4" of in/out play. Closer inspection showed me that on the other side (outside rear) of the housing, the sleeve had somehow rammed itself onto the spline causing the free play in the shaft. No idea how this happened since it's been that way ever since I've owned the tractor. Any thoughts on how this happens? Did the inside diameter of the sleeve wear somehow, causing it to slide rearward onto the spline? Will a drift pin be enough to knock it loose so that I can replace it? Thanks in advance for help!
