ford 861 d fuel lowsulfur shell

my first batch fuel I acquired was off road fuel from work and I just purchased some shell lowsulfur diesel to put in tractor. wondering if any body has noticed any difference in lowsulfur and off road fuel and any input would be great . will the lowsulfur have any long term damage . if so any suggested additive

Don't know why so many folks are still confused about red-dyed off-road ULSD-green, etc. I have check this many times in Texas, they are all EXACTLY the same fuel, and have exactly the same parts per million of sulfur. The refineries only made one grade of diesel in Texas. The red dye is added by the wholesaler to indicate that on-road taxes have not been paid to the State. The wholesaler must ensure that all diesel sold without taxes is dyed red. If you are caught with red-dyed fuel in an over the road vehicle, you pay enormous fines, professional cleaning of your fuel system, etc. Tom

So there is no diffrence in sulfur content on road and off road thanks .i know why they color the fuel i get that.iam in michigan not texas.i do know all the knew dozers ,excavators.loaders . Are the knew tear 4 low emissions . The johndeere excavator i run tells you its idled to much and a little green leaf pops up.

so is there an additive I should ad to lubricate the injection pump etc that really what I want to know .do you have a diesel tractor and what do you use if so .

There is a difference in energy between #1 and #2 deisel. Both are low sulfur. If you have an older diesel tractor the low sulfur will hurt your injection pump. There are additives avalable. I use Stynadyne.

Refiners are suppose to be adding lube to ULSD per engine manufactures to eliminate the possibility of bad scar test and leaking gasket problems we went threw when they changed from HSD to LSD.

With that said you are doing no harm; and many say good by adding a additive.
Many of they out there; take your pick.
Gunk makes one called M7112 Diesel Fuel Sulfur Substitute.
It does nothing to add sulfur to the fuel but plays on relation people have that reducing sulfur cause lube problems.

I have a 861 diesel.
To cut cost I started using a couple of ounces of MARINE 2 cycle oil per gallon of diesel instead of the gunk M7112.
Make sure it says marine (TC-W3) oil.
I also add a biocide every now and then.

Well i use to drive semi truck a bit,i owned a 3406 C Cat and i used Howes brand, anti gel and Low sulfur additive etc, i used 1 bottle a week summer and winter. I never touched the pump or anything on the fuel injection system, At 970,000 miles Plus 48% additional idling hours. I changed the bearings two times, I cant say its the best additive, but it never hurt me either.

No matter the additive, use the cleanest most rotated fuel you can buy.

In town I buy diesel where the ambulance service say they have had the lease problems, meaning the station that keeps their diesel fuel tank filters changed.

On the road, I buy at the major truck service centers where they rotate the fuel as much as possible.

Old diesel fuel can grow (bugs) bacteria, which can stop up your fuel system.
I use diesel kleen both summer and winter blends.

Just be careful pouring stuff in your tank not designed for diesel fuel.
